PTWD Meetup #35: Electron Explorations

For our next meetup, PTWD veteran presenter and app developer extraordinaire Kiyota Sage invites us to "take a shallow dive (or belly flop) into building applications with electron.js and potential discussions around why javascript is perhaps one of the worst, (but maybe practical?) choices for native app development."

Here's what wikipedia has to say about electron:

"Electron (formerly known as Atom Shell) is an open-source software framework developed and maintained by GitHub. It allows for the development of desktop GUI applications using web technologies: it combines the Chromium rendering engine and the Node.js runtime. Electron is the main GUI framework behind several notable open-source projects including Atom, GitHub Desktop, Light Table, Visual Studio Code, and WordPress Desktop."

Kiyota is billing this talk as "a guided virtual choose your own adventure improvisational premeditation on electron.js (with maybe a little splash of react for taste.)" One thing I love about Kiyota's talks is I know that he will pull no punches in talking about both the positive and negative aspects of the technology, so don't expect a "this is the best thing ever!" kind of presentation.

So get charged up and leave orbit in this electrifying talk about electron.js!
